InBoxer incorporates the Bayesian engine from SpamBayes,
the highly praised Bayesian open source project for blocking spam.
InBoxer
adds several customizations and features important for commercial use,
including easier installation, more accurate out-of-the-box filtering,
whitelisting and blacklisting, documentation and quality technical
support.
InBoxer Improves Upon SpamBayes and Gets
Results
The SpamBayes spam fighting algorithms are enhanced with InBoxer.
Personal Computer World compared InBoxer and SpamBayes head to
head. Their independent analysis showed that InBoxer had less than
half the number of false-positives and false-negatives than SpamBayes.
(In a test of just under 1000 mail messages collected over a few
weeks, SpamBayes required 78 interventions to fix errors while
InBoxer required only 37.)
The Best Buy award was given to InBoxer. Even though it costs more
than SpamBayes, Personal Computer World said that InBoxer is a better
product and the better value.
InBoxer Works Great Right Out of the Box
Hadar Pedhazur, Chairman of Zope Corporation, who sponsored SpamBayes
by donating his company's research and development time, has now
installed InBoxer for himself and his secretary. Mr. Pedhazur wrote:
"There are many combinations of Windows
and Microsoft Outlook in the wild, and the default SpamBayes Outlook
plugin doesn't install/work
perfectly on all of them. It's an amazing thing that it works as
well and on as many variations as it does. When it doesn't, savvy
users, with lots of time and patience on their hands, can connect
with the open source developers on a mailing list (if you don't know
what that means, you definitely need Inboxer! :-), and report their
problem, and wait for suggestions and/or code patches. Commercial
companies need to reduce these kinds of interactions by spending
more time up front ensuring that the software installs
easily
and works reliably. Inboxer has done exactly that. I recently installed
it on a colleague's machine after the free SpamBayes failed to install.
Inboxer installed on the first try and has been working flawlessly
ever since. My hat is off to the folks at Inboxer who have waded
into the depths of Windows and Outlook, and produced a reliable,
elegant
solution
to a really annoying problem, spam!"
